    About the Owner, Mandy Swanson.

I was born and raised in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. My family and I moved to Utah in 2015 and we quickly fell in love with the Beehive State.  I have been married to my husband, Mike for almost 25 years and we have four growing children that keep us busy and entertained.  My love for sewing blossomed at a young age and evolved into a fairly healthy quilting habit during my time in college.  Quilting is my stress relief and keeps my sanity intact (most days)!

My husband and I have traveled near and far, always stopping at quilt shops along the way to collect fabric and ideas for “one day” when we might own our own shop. We have spent decades dreaming and planning for that “one day” to arrive. I am delighted to have the opportunity to purchase such a BEE-UTAH-FUL shop that has come with such a lovely community of quilters!

I have been sewing since 7th grade, quilting about 20 years. I have no idea how long I have been at the shop…time flies when you’re having fun! My styles and fabric choices have morphed with the seasons in my life. The one thing I don’t do is pastels and gray…nope…not for me! I love Kaffe, he is my hero. I love the vibrant, beautiful colors. I also like Anna Maria Horner and Kathy Doughty, two very creative ladies who inspire me. You will not find me rewriting or making up a pattern…ever. My joy is in the color, putting them together and adding surprises.

I have been working at the shop for 10 years. I married my sweetheart 34 years ago and started quilting simple whole cloth quilts. I am the proud mother of three children and Oma to five beautiful grandsons, with number six on his way in January. I’m lucky to have children and grandchildren that love the quilts I make. I am a connoisseur of many fabric designers, but Kaffe Collective fabrics make me swoon. I love teaching the art of quilting, if only to get others as addicted to it as I am. I love any type of piecing and I’m willing to try just about anything. Improv quilts are my favorite right now. I am up for any challenge, especially curved piecing and applique. In the past year, I have returned to making clothing after a long hiatus. You might spy me in the shop wearing one of the many jackets I have made. I pretty much love fabric and will try just about anything involving the beautiful fabric available at the shop!

I started sewing in the third-grade wen my parents gave me my mother’s old sewing machine. My mom was an amazing seamstress and I am grateful for the many lessons she taught me. I made my first quilt in high school, but didn’t begin avidly quilting until 1998 when I began volunteering for Project Linus, a charity that makes blankets for seriously ill or traumatized children. My favorite thing to sew is costumes; both for theatre and Halloween. My favorite quilts to sew include nature or fantasy fabrics. Camping is a favorite hobby and I have set up a solar powered system that allows me to sew while camping. I have a collection of outdoor Dutch ovens and love to cook for others and share my knowledge of outdoor, pioneer and ancient cooking. My greatest love is my family, creating for and with them brings me the ultimate joy.
